Book Title: Girl Stories
Author's Name: Lauren R. Weinstein
Category: non-fiction
The review:
This is an auto-biographical story about a girl's life through adolesence. She deals with boys, friends, and peer pressure. It is written in graphics, which continue to change throughout the book, depending on how the girl feels, and what she is going through at the time. Overall, I thought the book wasn't that great. The humor was really young and obvious, and it was a little underdeveloped. I also found a lot of continuity errors within the drawings. Even though it only takes about an hour to read, I wouldn't recommend it.

Book Title: To Kill a Mockingbird
Author's Name: Harper Lee
Category: fiction
The review:
To Kill a Mockingbird is a coming-of-age story of Scout Finch and her brother, Jem, in 1930's Alabama. Through their neighborhood meanderings and the example of their father, they grow to understand that the world isn't always fair and that prejudice is a very real aspect of their world no matter how subtle it seems. I think that this book is a somewhat easy read, but would not recomend it if you are looking for something really fun.

Anna and Kate are sisters, they have an older brother, a mom, and a dad. There isn't that much different about their family except that Kate has leukemia. Anna deals with a lot of big issues in this book. If you figure out the begining at the begining like I did then you know how the book will end but otherwise it is realy surprising what happens.
This book is always doing the unexpected and it is written realy well. It made me cry and laugh and think a lot about what Anna should have done.

Book Title: The Princess Diaries

The review:
The Princess Diaries is about a girl living in New York City with her mom who is an artist. I liked the movie more then I liked the book, but the two are so differant that comparing them is usless. Amelia Thermopolis is a 14 year old who finds out she is a princess. At first her life does not change much but as her secret gets out her life changes more and more.
This book is interesting but it is not really great and I suggest reading something you will learn from before wasting your time on this book. But if you just want an easy read for before bed this is alright.

Book Title: Into the Wild
Author's Name: Jon Krakauer
Category: non-fiction
The review:
This is the story of Chris McCandless (which was recently made into a movie!), a young man from the East coast who, in the 1990s, decided to give up all the "luxuries" in life and tramp across the United States. He spent years wandering the western half of the US before finally beginning an epic journey "into the wilds" of Alaska.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and the fact that it is non-fiction really appealed to me. Krakauer does a great job piecing together McCandless's travels, and he offers great comparisons between McCandless and other people like him who have chosen to leave society behind in attempts to commune with nature. I liked the book so much, I've decided to read another book by Krakauer which chronicles his own adventures while mountain climbing (Into Thin Air).

A book with non stop plot. A troubled beginning when the main character, Amir, betrays his friend, Hassan. From then on Amir lives with his shame. It is set in Afghanistan, first before the Russians run it over, then while the Russians are there, and then after the Taliban comes in. However the book is quite morbid, so if you're faint at heart, don't pick it up, seriously. Made US Best Seller's List!

I know they made a movie on this, but the movie defiantly did not stay true to the book. The book starts in a completely different scene where bipedal lizards are killing infant Costa Ricans. By page 100, the book veers off in a direction totally different than the movie. I could not put this book down. This book is a little morbid, but if you can handle the word "intestines," then this techno-thriller would be a good way to kill some time.

Okay, so all you girls out here pay attention. If you have a passion for shopping and comedy, along with a little anxiety-induced suspense, you will probably find yourself at the edge of your seat with Sophie Kinsella's, "Confessions of a Shopaholic". If may not be a novel you can write an essay on for your AP exam, but rather a fun, can't-put-it-down read. The tale is literally about a young financial columnist who has no idea how to manage her own finances-seeing as she is literally a shopaholic. Pick it up on a rainy day, on the bus; even shut off the TV for this one, it is way more entertaining.

: What I that think this book is say so far is that instead of trying to make your weaknesses your strengths, work on making your strengths even better. And if you’re in a job that doesn’t make you feel enthusiastic than maybe that job isn’t right for you. In other words don’t go into a jobs that mainly focuses on your weaknesses, get a job that uses your strengths instead. Also what this book is saying is once you find out what your strengths are learn how to use them so that they are beneficial to you. Like lets say that one of your strengths is being a commander, there is one downfall of that you might not see that you might hurt some one by commanding them to do so much.

Book Title: Native Son
Author's Name: Richard A. Wright
Category: fiction
The review:
Richard A. Wright’s Native Son is truly a literary masterpiece. Wright’s brilliant writing style allows readers of all ethnicities, cultures, and financial backgrounds to get a snapshot of an interesting psyche that may otherwise be alien to them: that of a repressed, impoverished, black man.
In a most entertaining and insightful manner, Wright tells the story of Bigger Thomas, a 20-year-old African-American man living in the ghettos of South Chicago. In order to feed his siblings and aging mother, Bigger is forced to take a job as a chauffeur for an exceedingly wealthy family of supposed philanthropists. At this point in the novel, it seems that Bigger’s unfortunate situation may improve, until after a series of socially awkward events involving the communist party, Bigger has an accident involving the daughter of his employer, a beautiful white woman.
Curiously, after this tragic clash of cultures, Bigger does not feel an increase in his fear of the authority of white society, but rather a liberation from it. His years of always being unwillingly subservient to the white man have ended, as Bigger then feels that his life is truly in his hands, because if he were discovered, the penalty for his actions would certainly be death.
Numerous readers have commented on the emotional power that the book wields. The strength of the material is such that the reader is inherently forced to choose sides, but in contrast to many novels about a similar series of events, the reader can truly see into the mindset of Bigger Thomas, can understand his every move as he ends up committing several other crimes in order to facilitate his evasion of both the police and the thousands-strong mob of white men that are searching for him.
Throughout the course of the novel, Bigger is forced to confront issues with racial intolerance, spirituality, poverty, and numerous other compelling issues: all while the reader is right there, thinking about and almost feeling exactly as the character would. Native Son is unquestionably a must-read for anyone interested in American history, race relations, or just an entertaining book.

The review:
The Rose That Grew From The Concrete is a really good book. I enjoyed reading it because it had poems that I could relate to in everyday situations. I also liked it partly because all the poems were writen by Tupac, and he is a favorite music artist of mine.

The review:
This book was great! I want to hop on a flight to Tuscany, Italy as soon as possible. Anyone who loves a good romance with the right amount of conflict and humor would love this book. The author is amazing, and our library has the audio version for listening.
