Thank you to all the students, parents, and staff who helped make our first week of camp so productive.  The band achieved the goal of learning and memorizing music for the entire show and the drill to movement 1.  The week ended with some very humorous and creative skits and awards.  A few reminders:

Fri July 3 - Practice from 7-9 pm

Sat July 4 Parade
- arrive at 8am.  We will meet in the band room, arrive early since parking is limited.  The best place to park is the lower lot by the football field.  Parade steps off at 10 am.  Uniform: Gym shoes, white socks, khaki shorts, and 2009 MB shirt (to be distributed on July 3rd)

July 4th AMPS Booth - We encourage all students and parents to help out with the AMPS food booth at Williams Park.  Help out from 10 am to 8 pm.  It is a fantastic time.  Any questions, email Bob Schnieder (peabody-bob@worldnet.att.net).

2009 Marching Sequoits: "Western Frontier"!
This season, the Marching Sequoits will share some of the adventure and independence of the Old West.  Their show is titled “Western Frontier” and takes us on a journey through the wild west as memorialized on the silver screen. They open with selections from John Williams’ “The Cowboys”.  Next, you’ll hear music from “The Magnificent Seven”, “Blazing Saddles”, and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”. Their third selection is Aaron Copland’s “Hoe Down from Rodeo”. The show closes with Bruce Broughton’s, “Silverado”.   The recordings below now include cuts!!

Congratulations to all the bands at the ISHA Organizational Contest!
The ACHS Bands performed very well at the IHSA Organizational Contest at Lakes Community High School on April 18th.  The Advanced Wind Ensemble and the Jazz Ensemble took home all First Divisions, and scored higher than last year.  In its first year in the contest, the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band took home 3 first divisions and one second divsion.  The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band scored higher than Advanced Wind Ensemble did last year!  What is really exciting is their recording - they sound fantastic.  Have your student check it out on the school's shared folders.   Way to go all the bands!

Lakes Area Community Swing Band donates $2,000 to the ACHS band

ACHS Band students, Emily Andre, Brian Chivers, Alex Hoffman, and Mike Chivers, accept a donation from the Lakes Area Swing Band at the Lakes Area Community Band spring concert.

The ACHS Band received a $2,000 donation from the Lakes Area Community Swing Band.  The donation was presented at the Lakes Area Community Band Spring Concert, held in the ACHS Auditorium

The money will be used towards the purchase of sound panels for the band room.  During band practice, the decibel level in the band room often reaches over 100 dB, which can cause hearing damage after prolonged exposure.  These sound panels will absorb some of the sound in the room and create a safer listening environment for the music students.

The Lakes Area Swing Band is a full 18-piece swing band and has over 160 charts in their books. They play for weddings, anniversaries, private parties, fund-raisers, and public events all over Lake and McHenry counties.  The Lakes Area Community Swing Band is strictly non-for-profit: they play simply for the love and enjoyment of sharing this timeless music.  More information is available at:
