Drama Classes

If you are serious about drama at Lakes, the best way to become involved with productions is to take a drama class. Each class is a year long in length and receives a full academic credit towards graduation.

ACTING SEQUENCE:

Beginning Drama- Elective 9-12, 1 year, 1 credit
This course is an introduction to the art of acting. In addition to performing in class, students learn the history of theatre, specialized vocabulary, creation and techniques of drama, rehearsal and performance etiquette, and performance evaluation strategies. Techniques include improvisation, theatre games, and scripted material.

BEGINNING DRAMA SYLLABUS

Studio Theatre - Elective 10-12, 1 year, 1 credit Prerequisite: Beginning Drama
These courses are for selected students who have been identified as talented in theatre arts. Students will participate in advanced studies in theatre philosophy, characterization, and technique. Their talent will be given an opportunity to blossom through individual and group presentations using their specialized skills. This course may be taken more than once with instructor approval.

STUDIO THEATRE SYLLABUS

Studio Theatre Advanced - Elective 11-12, 1 year, 1 credit Prerequisite: Studio Theatre
These The most intensive acting class at Lakes, students who have been identified as talented in theatre arts will advance on to take on more advanced projects and performances. In addition to classroom projects Studio Theatre Advanced puts on the annual sketch comedy show "Hey! Who Turned Off the Lights!?" in May. Often times other public performances are done as well.

STUDIO THEATRE ADVANCED SYLLABUS

TECH THEATRE SEQUENCE:

Stagecraft - Elective 9-12, 1 year, 1 credit. Prerequisite: One of the following: Wood Technology, Art 2D, Art 3D, Apparel and Design, Beginning Drama or Teacher Appproval
Students will learn about theatre production through classroom, written, and hands-on experiences. Topics that are explored include set design and construction, safety, costume design, make-up, lighting and sound, producing, theatre business, advertising, props, scriptwriting
and analysis, striking a set, and theatre history. This course may be taken more than once with instructor approval.

STAGECRAFT SYLLABUS

Stagecraft Advanced - Elective 10-12, 1 year, 1 credit. Prerequisite: Stagecraft. After taking Stagecraft, students can advance on to a more intensive program in Stagecraft Advanced. This course may be taken more than once with instructor approval.
