Physical Education
Rules and Expectations

Students should be on time to both the locker room and attendance line. Students coming into the locker room late will be counted tardy. Tardies will result in a decrease of points earned for the day. If you come in late, be sure to check in with your teacher.

All excused absences may be made up after school or with a written assignment. Make-ups will rotate from after school workouts to written assignments based on how many days excused. Students will make arrangements with their teacher as to which days are available. Any excused absences will go into the gradebook as a 0 until they are made up. Absences not made up will result in a 0 for that day. (This includes classroom days and written work) Unexcused absences or lack of gym attire may not be made up. Make-ups must be completed by the end of the NEXT unit.

Directions and announcements will be given at the beginning of class. If you miss the instructions for the day you should see the teacher before you begin your activity. I expect all directions to be followed exactly.

Swearing will not be tolerated in class. You will lose points from your daily grade if this occurs. Continual swearing will be referred to the Dean.

Students will be treated with respect and are expected to treat each other and the teachers with respect.

If a student becomes injured or ill during class, the teacher should be notified immediately. Proper action will be taken.

Each class is started off with a fitness activity including some type of warm-up and stretching.

Students may not hang on the goal posts, goals, basketball rims, or any nets. This is a safety issue. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.

When playing games, all rules must be obeyed. All calls made by the officiating student are final.

Students are to remain in the assigned activity until dismissed to the locker room by the teacher. Leaving without permission will result in a class cut.

All students are to remain in the locker room at the end of the period until the bell sounds unless told to do otherwise by a staff member.

No eating or drinking in the gyms, classroom or locker room at any time. No chewing gum and no jewelry is to be worn in class.

There will be classroom sessions for each class. Assignments may be given. Failure to turn in assignments could result in failure of PE.

Students are to wear the complete school P.E. uniform. Any thing else will result in a no dress for the day. A no dress will be given to the student who does not dress for any reason other than a doctor’s note. A no dress will result in the loss of ALL points for the day. Rental uniforms are available before class for $1 each. Uniforms may not be rented after the class bell rings. An ID must be left with the teacher until the rental is returned. Uniforms may not be rented for more than two consecutive days.

New uniforms may be purchased on-line or from the P.E. staff before the class bell rings.

Any student not dressing out for P.E. will not be allowed to participate in after school sports. Coaches will be notified.

After three no dresses, a student’s grade will be lowered one letter grade for each occurrence thereafter.

Uniforms are to be taken home each Friday and cleaned. Dirty or smelly uniforms will result in a no dress.

Grading will be on a daily basis. There is a possibility of earning 5 points per day: Daily points will equal 40% of the unit grade. Skill development, use of sport strategy and knowledge will equal 30% of the unit grade. Fitness, including daily fitness activities, weekly fitness days and tests will be worth 20%. Unit grades will equal 90% of the semester grade and a final assessment will be worth 10% of the final semester grade.

If a medical condition results in not being able to participate, a doctor’s note will be necessary to excuse you from physically participating for that period of time. Parent notes will not be accepted. An alternate written assignment may be assigned.

Find a partner that you would like to work with. There should only be groups of 2. After Christmas you and your partner will sign up to lead one of our Tuesday or Thursday Fitness classes. You will be required to lead a warm-up, main activity, and cool down. You must have an overall goal of using one health component and one skill component of fitness that you have learned about today in your lesson. THE LESSON MUST BE FITNESS ORIENTED; IF YOU JUST PLAY A GAME WITHOUT FITNESS YOU WILL FAIL THE ASSIGNMENT. ONLY 1 GROUP MAY CHOOSE TO PLAY FITNESS DODGEBALL. IF THERE IS NOT ENOUGH EMPHASIS ON FITNESS DURING THIS LESSON YOU WILL NOT PASS THE ASSIGNMENT!!

Begin brainstorming with your partner what you would like to do. Read the attached sheets. YOU MUST HAND IN YOUR LESSON PLAN 1 WEEK BEFORE YOUR LESSON OR YOU WILL FAIL THE PREPARATION PART OF YOUR ASSIGNMENT. YOU MUST ALSO HAND IN YOUR SELF-EVALUATION THE DAY AFTER YOUR LESSON F
OR FULL POINTS.
