Web Page Calendars
by Mark Thompson

Google Calendars is possibly the easiest and most convenient way to create an online calendar. If you have created calendars using another software program, such as Microsoft Word or Publisher, you can make these accessible via your web page by saving them in a web-friendly format.

First, open the calendar document that you have created. (Incidentally, these instructions work well for any fancy documents you have created that won't "copy and paste" correctly onto a web page.)

word.jpgFor documents created with Microsoft Word, click on the "File" menu and select "Save as Web Page..." Enter a simple name for the file and then click "Save." This will create a web page version of your calendar (or any other kind of document you have created).

publisher1.jpgFor documents created with Microsoft Publisher, click on the "File" menu and select "Save as..." Enter a simple name for the file. Then use the "Save as type..." menu at the bottom of the dialog box to change the file type to JPEG. Finally, click "Save." This will create a picture of your calendar (or any other kind of document you have created).

Launch the First Class program on your computer (you must use the stand-alone program rather than the web browser access).

webpub.jpgNow, place a copy of your calendar file into Web Publishing folder. You can either drag the document icon to the folder or use the "Upload" command on the "File" menu to locate the file and copy it.

Then, open your web page and create a link to your calendar by highlighting the text or image that will become the link, then clicking the "Edit" menu and selecting "Make Link…" Enter the exact name of the file you are linking to and then click "OK." (Don't forget to include the filename's extension, such as .jpg for a JPEG file.) If the file is in a different folder than the web page, type the folder name before the file name, with a forward slash (/) between them.

Remember that if you rename your files (or folders), you'll need to re-do any links you've made to those documents. The same is true if you move any linked files from one location to another.

That’s it for web page calendars. See the list below for other web publishing options:
